Hey Remember THE HALLWAY SHOW?

Is The Hallway Show losing its luster? Is it old news? I surely hope not. The past couple of picks have warranted a dismal number of results and it's disheartening. Is it because you don't like the pick? The point of the Hallway Show is to do it, even if you don't want to, because it's a CHALLENGE. Choosing not to participate, is an option, but it's a little different when we have a blog dedicated to the spirit of a show that we valued so much. It's also different when you miss one or two, but anymore than that and you're not even trying anymore. You don't have time to do a piece? I'm pretty sure the point is so you don't spend a lot of time on it. There's TWENTY-THREE of us. It's 2010, people. Let's put the fire back into our hearts and make this blog great. You can't be on the fence, as artists and friends, let's band together and make this blog what it was when it first started. Let's make some awesome art.

Also, Matthew DeBeul finally has a blog so everyone add him to your blog roll, make him feel welcomed, you know, the usual.

  1. While I certainly agree with you that this blog could really be something so much more impressive and interesting if at least a MAJORITY of it's contributors...contributed! But I have to say, maybe without being aware, you come off a bit harsh. It is simply inevitable that people will dislike choices and the atmosphere is pretty care free so people say what is on their mind - but I don't see that as a sign of "WELL THIS IS WHY I'M NOT GONNA POST" -and trying to publicly call out those who are not pulling their weight is perhaps not the best choice (maybe contact people privately to remind them this blog is not a place for them to put up a free website link just because they can).

Maybe the way to combat the laziness is to make a requirement for participation, missing one week is ok, more than that should be some kind of personal emergency because really the expectation isn't a 7 hour+ masterpiece so it should be manageable by everyone. I don't find it at all fair for people to link themselves as contributors and only choose to participate every now and then when they feel like it.
I also feel that when people are choosing for the week they should be one of the earlier posters, mostly due to the fact that I know when I check this blog and see people posting on it right away, it gets me more psyched to post as soon as I can get the free time to work on it. And if someone makes the pick I would hope they would be most excited about it, having come up with it!

Indeed let us make some awesome art, support one another, because I honestly think it is an opportunity to remind ourselves why we love this, and how to make anything (even really obnoxious or ugly people) FUN!

  2. I will try harder. 6 classes plus 35+ hours at work a week = no time for play. But I promise.

  3. I don't have a scanner currently. I'm also student teaching, trying to work at best buy, and trying to do pieces for my senior wall. I'll try harder to find a scanner, but you've gotta give some of us a little slack. Those of us who aren't posting lately still love the hallway show.
